Gary Graham (Star Trek, Alien Nation) stars in the TV pilot Dead End City, TV’s homage to Sin City. His sexy co-stars include Dani Lennon, Misty Madden, and Mandy May - who is soon to be seen on Sci-Fi Channel’s Sanctuary.
You can get more at the Dead End City The Series official website, including behind the scenes video and photos, a trailer and images of the cast.
Looks like a hard-core, zombie-fest in the extreme. It actually looks like the major usage of green screen has paid off. It gives it an ‘unreal’ and almost comic book effect. Film noir?
There’s a sneak-peek of the pilot below:
Thanks to Jeff Varga (the director).
DISCOVER KYLE XY: DECLASSIFIED ON DVD FROM 4 AUGUST 2008.
The OC meets Smallville in the explosive BBC2 teen drama Kyle XY: Declassified which is available to own on DVD this August.
This gripping American teen soap opera come sci-fi mystery show has attracted a cult following after a prime time Saturday night TV slot and is set to win the hearts and minds of more fans following its DVD release.
So who is Kyle XY? We first meet the hunky hero (Matt Dallas) wandering naked through a forest on the outskirts of Seattle. Unable to speak and without any memory – and curiously no belly button – Kyle is eventually picked up by the authorities and placed in a juvenile detention centre.
It’s there Kyle meets his future foster mother – social worker Nicole Trager (Marguerite MacIntyre - Bones, Numb3rs) who takes pity on him and invites him to live with her.

Southland Tales
From Richard Kelly, creator of (one of my favourite films) Donnie Darko.
“HAVE A NICE APOCALYPSE!” or “THIS IS THE WAY THE WORLD ENDS, NOT WITH A WHIMPER BUT WITH A BANG!”
I watched the checkdisk, my brain went to mush. And I could quite easily imagine that is where the above quotes come from, the mushing and/exploding of the brain. As Richard Kelly apparently said, “You need to watch it twice to unlock its mysteries”. Yeah, no brainer really, it’s like a weird comic with so many strands and freaky things all at once it makes me think maybe he made it for his own amusement - a lets see how many ideas and effects and storylines and actors and other such things we can have in a large viewing timeframe-, and forgot there were people who were looking forward to it, to having to pay to watch it, to at least get some semblence of a cohesive story from watching it.
I’ll be putting myself through 2 hrs 25 minutes in the next day or so, and hopefully will be able to work out what the heck was going on.
By the way, the above doesn’t mean I dislike it, it’s just a lot for the five senses to take in. I think two of mine shutdown after about an hour and a half, so, once they’re bolstered up and recovered, I’ll re examine the film.
Until then, here’s some info to whet your appetite…

Now here’s an idea: Put together ideas for a full length script, film it initially as a 15 minute mini-movie, screen it FREE to scifi enthusiasts with the view to accumulating feedback and ideas for the full length feature film to be filmed later on.
Beth Timbrell of Retro-Juice Productions Ltd is spreading the word on just such an idea:
“Here’s hoping that some of you will be interested in coming along to see a great new mini-movie for FREE in London. Basically I’ve been working on a short film (just got accepted into the Brussels Festival of Fantastic Film!) with a great new director making a mini version of his feature script which is going to be filmed next year. Its “a pumped-up overblown thriller of a teen-flick that gets rudely invaded by sci-fi as the class reject stalks the prom queen but gets more than was advertised on the packaging…”
We’re really looking for as many true sci-fi fans to come along as possible to give us some genuine feedback but I’m sure you’ll like it, we even have some limited edition DVDs that’ll be available afterwards.
Theres going to be a Q&A with the director and actors afterwards and hopefully Noel Clarke (Doctor Who) will also be able to be there as he cameos in the film and is set to star in the feature version too.
Be great if you let me know if you are interested so I can send you all the details on it, so email me on beth@retro-juice.com. If you want, you can check out the Retro-Juice site which will give you a few sneak previews but be great to see you down here & might even chuck in a free tub of popcorn too!”
I’ve included the Director Mark Davis’ blurb sheet which Beth sent which contains his reasons and goals behind the movie. You can download it here.
A snippet of which is, “I mean to question the very formulaic construction of these films [Hollywood high-concept movies] and ask whether the audience is demanding them or whether commerce is dictating them.”
Also, the press pack is available here. I just love the tagline to Plastic - “…and I knew there was something wrong with the girl, the first time I killed her…”
Both downloads are zipped and in PDF format.
The viewing is at the Curzon Soho, from 6pm on Wednesday March 1st.
And if that isn’t enough you’ll find some promo images from the Plastic mini-movie below.

Plastic Lucys

A Plastic Gun

A Plastic Bed

The Plastic Stalk
If you wish to go and do get in contact with Beth, then please include a reference to SF UK Review.
And of course, I’ll be there (let’s just hope it’s not plastic popcorn they provide!). Seriously though, I think it will be an experience for both sides of the fence; the people working on and in the movie and for the people viewing it.
There will be a writeup of the experience once I’ve been to the screening.
See all posts regarding Plastic: including a review, more screenshots, a bit of fun, and an interview with the director M. Davis.
