Dark, Twisted But Still Strangely Beautiful Artwork from Mike Bohatch.
Mike is a professional illustrator / graphic designer specializing in the creation of horror, dark fantasy imagery and surreal artistry.
I first came into contact with Mike’s work within the pages of The Third Alternative. It was a single A4 page and in black and white, but the image itself was quite enticing simply because of it’s weirdness. I wanted to see what else this guy had done, so after looking at the credits I headed over to Eyes Of Chaos.
You can tell straight away upon arriving at his site what the overall essence of the artwork is. Sometimes black and white, sometimes red. maybe blue and very occassionally bright colours; but always very dark. Each piece is named solidly and it works in conjunction with the actual image.
His work appears to be an exploration of people and environments. To me, this is true SF artwork. Simply because it’s exploring and at the same time, changing that which we know as the norm. Everyday objects (and people) are twisted, hacked, changed, merged, colour shifted and darkened to an almost incoherent and indescribable alternate reality.
You will notice from the selection here that nothing is safe where Mike is concerned. Give him a word and he’ll create. A truly stunning array of diverse subjects.
I find it hard not to imagine a piece of his artwork sitting nicely in my living room, but I’m not quite sure what visitors would think!
